Animal Rescue Qld.
In January 2020 the natural progression of things saw our own Border Collie puppies grow up and leave for their exciting new lives with their families. Having witnessed the profound impact socialisation has on both puppies and people, we started searching for a rescue organisation to work with so we could put our experience caring, rearing and training to further use with dogs and puppies in need.
We were fortunate enough to find a rescue that not only accept us as registered breeders, but also hold the same values and views on early socialisation that we do. We became approved foster carers with Animal Rescue Qld and began welcoming dogs and puppies into our home and cafe.
The majority of the puppies we raise as foster carers with ARQ come from their Last Litter Program, an amazing program that aims to stop the cycle of unwanted pets by seeking out and taking on accidental and unwanted pregnancies and litters, raising them in loving foster homes usually with their Mum, finding families for the puppies once they are 8 weeks old and then desexing and returning Mum to her family, ensuring no further accidental pregnancies.
Our foster puppies are included in our early socialisation program at Collies & Co. once they are old enough to accept and learn from new positive experiences. We follow the same Puppy Culture protocols that we use with our Border Collie puppies which include manding, clicker training, toilet training, crate training, walking on lead and positive exposure to a wide variety of sights, sounds, smells, objects, animals, experiences and people.
The added benefit of socialising foster puppies at Collies & Co. is that families visiting the cafe and participating in the socialisation sessions are able to meet, cuddle and play with these puppies, and if they are looking for a new family member, they might even consider applying to Adopt them!

We have been able to continue our relationship as foster carers with ARQ and have welcomed our first rescue litter since the COVID break. We are very excited to work with these babies provide them extra love and socialisation before they transition to their forever homes.
